Hard water stains on glass are mineral deposits—primarily calcium and magnesium—that bond to the surface when water evaporates, and they require mechanical polishing or professional acid compounds to remove safely once they set beyond a light film. Standard window cleaning removes dirt and grime but will not dissolve deposits that have cured onto the glass matrix.
